SF Planning Limited was established in 2005 by Simon Firkins, building on his experience in both the public and private sectors over the previous decade. Following a rapid expansion in business, Mark Godson joined the company in May 2008 having previously worked with Simon at Cotswold District Council in the early part of both of their careers.  In January 2013 Becky Brown joined SF Planning adding further significant experience to the team.  In August 2015 Paul Jenkins joined the company from London.  In June 2016 Liz Shield joined SF Planning having previously worked as a Planning Lawyer.  More recently Nathan Maddox increased the number of Royal Town Planning Institute Members at SF Planning.  Marcus Evans and Kimberley Dix further strengthened the team in 2018.

SF Planning Limited now has a broad client base as well as a diverse range of public and private sector experience.

Simon graduated from the University of Manchester in 1996 with a BA (Hons) Degree in Town and Country Planning and a Master of Town Planning,  Simon has almost five years experience working in Development Control at rural and urban planning authorities, latterly at a senior level.  Simon is a Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and also has more than ten years of experience of planning in the private sector, previously as an Associate, prior to establishing SF Planning Limited in 2005.  Simon has a wide range of experience from complex listed building projects to large scale development proposals.  Outside of work, Simon is a keen squash player and currently plays in Gloucestershire Premier League.

Mark Godson SF Planning Limited Meet the teamMark Godson BSc (Hons) MA MRTPI

Mark has over seventeen years of planning experience.  Following graduation from the University of Southampton in 1998 with a BSc (Hons) Degree in Geography, he started his career with Cotswold District Council.  Mark achieved an MA in Town and Country Planning from the University of the West of England in 2003, quickly followed by membership of the RTPI.  In 2004 he joined Cheltenham Borough Council where he was a Senior Planner for 4½ years before joining SF Planning in May 2008.  Mark has a wealth of planning experience, such as major town centre regeneration schemes, through to individual dwellings and householder schemes.  When not at work, Mark is enjoying family life with his wife, and two children.

Becky Brown SF Planning Limited Meet the teamBecky Brown BA (Hons) DipTRP MRTPI

Becky’s experience includes giving evidence at Public Inquiry, large scale education redevelopment, dealing with enforcement matters and EIA development.  She has worked on projects all over the country including Greater Manchester, South Cambridgeshire and North Devon.  Becky started her career in 1994 at Woodspring District Council (now North Somerset Council). She then spent seven years at Cheltenham Borough Council before making the leap into the private sector in 2004 (working in Bristol).  Becky then joined SF Planning Ltd in January 2013.  Outside of work Becky enjoys spending time with family, travelling, practising yoga, and fine wine & food with friends.

Paul Jenkins SF Planning Limited

Paul Jenkins BSc (Hons) MA MRTPI

Paul joined SF Planning in 2015 from a London based planning, land and development consultancy and is a member of the RTPI with significant practical experience in both public and private sectors.  Paul has acted on behalf of clients and developers having been involved with high density residential and mixed use proposals, commercial and leisure schemes in both rural and urban locations.  Prior to this, Paul worked for 5 years in development management at Westminster City Council and 3 years at Forest of Dean District Council in Gloucestershire.  Paul graduated in 2003 from the University of Wales, Swansea with a BSc (Hons) in Geography and went on to complete an MA in Town and Country Planning from the University of the West of England, Bristol in 2006.  Outside work Paul enjoys most sports and live music.

Nathan joined SF Planning in 2017 and is a member of the RTPI.  Nathan has over 6 years of private sector experience having previously worked at an environmental planning consultancy in the Midlands.  Nathan has acted on behalf of a wide range of clients and has been involved with commercial, leisure, waste management, mineral, agricultural and renewable energy generation development, including complex large-scale EIA projects.  Nathan graduated in 2009 from the University of Reading with a BSc (Hons) in Human Geography and went on to complete a MSc in Development Planning also at the University of Reading in 2010. Outside of work Nathan enjoys playing and watching rugby, walking the dog and spending time with his family.

Marcus joined SF Planning in 2018. Marcus has over 3 years of private sector experience having previously worked at planning consultancies in Cheltenham and Bristol.  Marcus has acted on behalf of a wide range of clients and has been involved with residential, education, commercial and renewable energy generation development.  Marcus is currently working towards being accredited as both a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).  Marcus graduated from Cardiff University with a BSc (Hons) in Human Geography and Planning and went on to complete a MSc in Urban and Regional Development also at Cardiff in 2016.  Outside of work Marcus enjoys all things sport, watching and playing in a number including rugby; golf and cricket.

Kimberley graduated from the University of East Anglia in 2013 with a BA in International Development with Politics.  She started her career at South Norfolk District Council and then was offered a position with Great Yarmouth Borough Council as a Strategic Planner, working on the new Local Plan.  In this time Kimberley undertook an MSc in Town Planning, she will graduate from her MSc in May 2019 and is a student member of the RTPI.  Kimberley continues to develop her knowledge and experience with SF Planning.  Outside of work Kimberley enjoys yoga, swimming, music and art and crafts.
