Refurbishment of historic Cheltenham hotel given go-ahead

The George Hotel Cheltenham

The George Hotel Cheltenham. Listed buildingThe large grade II* listed George Hotel is spread over 4 floors and contains 31 bedrooms, restaurants and meeting rooms.  Formerly a row of five townhouses, it dates back to 1840 and holds a prominent position within the centre of the town.

Working closely with Gloucester-based Roberts Limbrick Architects, SF Planning has successfully obtained listed building consent for the internal and external works required to overhaul and refurbish the hotel following positive pre-application discussions with Cheltenham Borough Council’s senior conservation officer.

The proposal will allow the new owner, Dunkerton Properties LLP, to renovate the hotel to a high standard and breathe new life into these important heritage buildings ensuring The George continues to attract visitors to the town.

Roberts Limbrick’s Design & Access Statement, which details the proposed works on a floor-by-floor basis, can be viewed on the Council’s website here.

The project is being delivered by the Dowdeswell Estates team.
